The Brief

The prestigious Lowry Hotel in Manchester, known for its five-star style, came back to Fusion with the task of transforming the kitchen units in their suite kitchens. The objective was to shift from stainless steel to a darker oak effect, matching the aesthetic of the wardrobes we had previously wrapped. The focus was on achieving a high-end finish, with attention to detail that included wrapping both the front and back of the cupboard doors.

This project marked our third collaboration with the Lowry Hotel, having previously wrapped lockers in their spa area and undertaken a comprehensive renovation of 150 wardrobes in the hotel. Our ongoing relationship, built on trust and a shared commitment to quality, led us to be the preferred choice for the final phase of their refurbishment.

The Consultation

Working together and communicating efficiently was key in this project. We provided a test door to ensure the design met the hotel’s and their interior designer’s exacting standards. The choice of a dark oak wood effect from the LX Hausys range was deliberate – it not only complemented the new suite colour scheme but also offered practical benefits like reduced visibility of fingerprints.

The Transformation

The project involved wrapping the cupboard doors and drawers in the suites. In addition to this transformation, the worktop and splashback were updated to a concrete effect, creating a cohesive and striking design statement. The new kitchen appearance integrated with the suite’s luxurious ambience, enhancing the overall guest experience. As celebrities and VIP’s from around the country regularly utilise the hotel and in particular, the suites, The Lowry now have rooms to sell befitting of their stature.

The Process

Working in sync with the fit-out company, we planned our intervention to align with their tight schedule. Recognising the hotel’s priority to minimise disruption, the project was executed in two phases, allowing for efficient room turnover and maximum suite availability. On average, it took one installer half a day per kitchen to wrap, inclusive of the carcasses and kickboards.

The Outcome

The newly transformed kitchens now resonate with the suite’s updated design scheme, offering a more refined look that befits the hotel’s luxurious reputation. Guests are now greeted with kitchens that not only dazzle in appearance but also excel in functionality.

Client Advantages

The Lowry Hotel reaped multiple benefits from this project: a swift transformation with minimal disruption to guests, cost savings compared to a full kitchen replacement, and the sustainability aspect of repurposing existing units. Our efficient process enabled the hotel to continue offering their suites without significant downtime, aligning perfectly with their commitment to guest satisfaction and operational excellence.

Conclusion

At Fusion Surfaces, we pride ourselves on delivering transformations that are both aesthetically pleasing and functionally sound. This project at the Lowry Hotel is a testament to our ability to blend luxury with practicality, ensuring that every detail contributes to an elevated guest experience.

Rosie Christie

Co-Founder

Older than the rest of the team, but not necessarily wiser as she’d like to think. There’s not an activity under the sun that she’s not been willing to have a go at, resulting in a mediocre ukulele player, part-time blogger, one-time skydiver and an unfinished sitcom script. There’s no room for shades of grey in this half of the partnership; everything comes down to looking after people who are important.

Organising tradesmen is not a task for the fainthearted. But recruiting the right tradesmen, ones who align with our values and are highly skilled at what they do makes for a much more harmonious project management process. Rosie’s role begins with a meeting to discuss your requirements, providing you with a quotation and carries through to the on-site management of your project.

Jade Mitchell

Co-Founder

She’s the only Southerner on the team, but we try not to hold it against her too much. If anything, we’ve enjoyed introducing Jade to a vast number of pie shops now she’s a Northern resident. Standing at a phenomenal 5’2”, she is living proof that big things come in small packages; a mix of infectious enthusiasm, laughter, loyalty, authority and uncanny Theresa May impressions.

Communicating with our clients is Jade’s forte. Being highly organised and placing customer satisfaction at the forefront of everything she does means that from enquiry to completion, your queries will be dealt with efficiently. For an in depth knowledge of the material specification of our interior film, Jade is your woman. She will put your mind at rest that not only do we install this product, but we make sure that is the most suitable for your needs.
